The Bagel Store in Brooklyn, NY Is Serving Up Schmears With A Smile

Stop by The Bagel Store in Brooklyn and you’re bound to be mesmerized by the beautiful-colored bagels. After all, owner Scot Rossillo is famous for having created the Rainbow Bagel, as delicious to the eyes as it is to the tastebuds. But there are plenty of other items to savor in The Bagel Store, like the Cragel (a croissant/bagel blend), or the secret menu item, the Bacon, Egg & Cheese … on an actual Bacon, Egg & Cheese Bagel. Swoon.

If you thought that all bagels had to be of the sesame, poppy seed or plain variety, think again. Bagel artist Scot Rossillo has been making beautiful bagels for over 20 years, in every shade of the rainbow—literally. If you’re not near one of his two Brooklyn bagel stores, you’re in luck—The Bagel Store ships nationally. Some of the must-haves on his delectable menu include the Bacon Egg and Cheddar Cheese Bagel ($3.20) with egg and cheese baked right into the bagel and crispy bacon on top. But don’t stop there; order the secret menu item (a bacon, egg, and cheese ON a Bacon Egg and Cheddar Cheese Bagel) for an utterly out-of-this-world experience.

Of course, Scot is known for his Rainbow Bagels, and they don’t disappoint. They’re almost too pretty eat, and you’ll find yourself mesmerized by the swirling colors (no two bagels are alike). Pair it with the crazy popular Birthday Cake cream cheese for a super delish—and adorable—bagel. And yes, it does taste like birthday cake!

If bagels aren’t your thing, you can always try the decadent Cragel (the French Toast Cragel, $3.95, is to-die-for good) and if you’re looking for something more savory, the Spinach Parmesan Cheese Bagel will surely satisfy. The Bagel Store offers traditional bagel fare, like Plain, Poppy, Sesame, Onion, Everything, and Buttery Garlic Bagels.

If you’re looking for something beyond butter and cream cheese to slather on, you can choose from an amazing assortment of homemade cream cheeses. In the mood for something sweet? Try the Nutella Cream Cheese (insane), Cannoli Cream Cheese (hella good), or the Blueberry or Strawberry Cream Cheeses. Other top pics: try the olive pimento cream cheese, scallion cream cheese, sun dried tomato cream cheese, or the roasted garlic and herb cream cheese, which we were told by Scot is actually really delish to cook with! For bagel purists, the lox cream cheese doesn’t disappoint.

For the purists who love a plain ‘ol regular or poppy bagel, though, there are still decadent ways to top your breakfast bread. The Bagel Store offers a wide variety of homemade cream cheeses that will put your store-bought cream cheese to shame. Here are our top picks:

The Sweet Cream Cheeses:

Birthday Cake (Funfetti) Cream Cheese

Just like its name suggests, the cream cheese tastes just like birthday cake. And with some fun rainbow-colored sprinkles mixed in, it’s no wonder why this cream cheese is one of the most popular to be paired with the Rainbow Bagel.

Nutella Cream Cheese

If you love Nutella, you’ll love this creamy version of the chocolate hazelnut spread. Divine.

Cannoli Cream Cheese

We’re not going to lie: this cream cheese didn’t even make it onto our bagel. We ate it straight out of the cup.

The Savory Cream Cheeses:

Chipotle Cream Cheese

Spicy with just enough of a kick, the Chipotle Cream Cheese was yummy. It would be great for a savory bagel, or even served alongside a platter or veggies.

Sundried Tomato Bacon Cream Cheese

Two words- yum-o. Scot had told us that you can cook with these cream cheeses, and this would be one that could spice up Tuesday night’s chicken dinner.

Garlic & Herb Cream Cheese

The Garlic & Herb Cream Cheese would make a delicious creamy sauce for your pasta or meat dishes.

Maple Bacon Cream Cheese

Sweet and savory at the same time, there was no denying the deliciousness of the Maple Bacon Cream Cheese.

No matter if you’re in the mood for sweet or savory cream cheese, the bagels and toppings are totally worth the trek to The Bagel Store. Not only is every order Instagram-worthy, but it’s totally delicious, too.
