The 4th of July is all about celebrating our nation’s independence, and what better way to celebrate your own little sous chef’s creativity than to give them some freedom in the kitchen? Since you might not want them grilling hot dogs and burgers just yet, some easy 4th of July treats for kids will be perfect for your little firecracker. And with a color scheme of red, white, and blue, you can really have some fun making these treats that are festively delicious desserts—and perfectly patriotic.
Red, White & Blue Strawberries
Now you can finally put all those strawberries you scored when you went strawberry picking to good use. Choose the juiciest ones you can find, give them a quick dip in white melting chocolate, and finish with red and blue sanding sugar for a (somewhat) healthy and easy 4th of July treat.
Red, White & Blue Marshmallows
Save some of those marshmallows that you were planning to use for s’mores to make these sweet treats instead. Dip your marshmallows in melting chocolate, and then add sprinkles or colored sugar. Be sure to let dry for at least 10 minutes for a dessert that’s sure to sparkle.
Red, White & Blue Oreos
Celebrate the 4th with a bang when you serve these red, white, and blue Oreos. Of course, you can use any cookie for this dessert, but Oreos tend to work best, since they’re sturdier and won’t crumble (ha) under the weight of the melting chocolate and sprinkles.
Red, White & Blue Ice Cream Cones
The summer season is ripe with yummy fruit, and many of them (think strawberries, cherries, blueberries, etc.) fit perfectly with the red, white, and blue color scheme. Take a small ice cream cone and fill it with bite-size strawberries and blueberries. And if you’re feeling extra festive, dip the rim in melting chocolate and slather with sprinkles.
