- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 3 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar, sifted
- 4-5 tbsp. milk or half and half
- 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- 1/4 tsp. salt

- 3 1/2 cups cake flour
- 4 1/2 tsp. double action baking powder
- 2 1/4 cups sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter
- 3 eggs
- 1 1/2 cups milk or buttermilk (preferred)
Instructions
Buttercream Frosting
- Cream butter.
- Add sugar gradually.
- Add salt.
- Stir in liquid a little at a time.
- Beat until fluffy.
Butter Cake
- Sift dry ingredients together.
- Cream sugar & shortening together, then add eggs.
- Add flour and milk alternately.
- Grease and flour two 9-inch cake pans.
- Bake 375 for 35 minutes.
- Cool in pans for 5 minutes and release to cool.
- When cool, frost the cakes with the butter frosting and enjoy!
