Ingredients
  

Buttercream Frosting

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 3 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar, sifted
  • 4-5 tbsp. milk or half and half
  • 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/4 tsp. salt

Butter Cake

  • 3 1/2 cups cake flour
  • 4 1/2 tsp. double action baking powder
  • 2 1/4 cups sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups milk or buttermilk (preferred)

Instructions
 

Buttercream Frosting

  • Cream butter.
  • Add sugar gradually.
  • Add salt.
  • Stir in liquid a little at a time.
  • Beat until fluffy.

Butter Cake

  • Sift dry ingredients together. 
  • Cream sugar & shortening together, then add eggs. 
  • Add flour and milk alternately.
  • Grease and flour two 9-inch cake pans. 
  • Bake 375 for 35 minutes. 
  • Cool in pans for 5 minutes and release to cool. 
  • When cool, frost the cakes with the butter frosting and enjoy!
