Typically, live performances mean sitting back in your seat, relaxing, and watching the action onstage. But how about being inside an actual bubble? That’s what you’ll get to experience — and so much more — at The Gazillion Bubble Show. Currently at New World Stages in New York City (and select cities, too), The Gazillion Bubble Show offers an interactive experience like no other, thanks in part to bubble artist Deni Yang. Deni, who grew up surrounded by beautiful bubbles, talked to Celebrity Parents Magazine about being brought up in a bubblicious family business and why — even when the last bubble bursts— the memories you’ll make as a family will last forever.
Since its inception in 2007, how has The Gazillion Bubble Show evolved?
Everything has changed. We’ve incorporated lots of new tech and more lighting. There are more bubbles than ever. Also, everyone is more encapsulated inside the theater rather than looking at one portrait or performer on stage. The audience becomes immersed in the show.
My favorite part was The Matrix segment.
I love that one, too. I’ve gotten a lot of ideas from that part as well. It’s a lot of fun, using the square box and all the numbers we put it inside of it. All parts of the show are great, but during that one section, you can feel that everyone comes alive, and the energy is great.
What is it like performing in The Gazillion Bubble Show?
It’s amazing. Everything and everywhere is bubbles. Kids are screaming and everyone is so excited during the show. For me, it’s so laid back. It’s not even like having a job! I’m very passionate about it and I enjoy what I do.
It’s a very sensory experience.
Definitely. The bubbles shoot out into the audience during various parts of the show, and that’s always something that I love, to see that happiness and hear the laughter.
With millions (or really, gazillions) of bubbles being blown during the show, I’d imagine that the floor would get super slippery.
[laughs] Yes. We vacuum after the show, but it does get very slippery. At the time when I was doing the large bubble, I was sliding! [laughs] It’s more fun that way, though. I’ve gotten used to it.
It’s so cool that The Gazillion Bubble Show is a family business.
It is. My father used to have a juggling act. One day, a bubble fell on top of a light table, and he saw the full spectrum of light. That’s when he started incorporating bubbles into the show and it just took off from there. And I started when I was 4 years old.
So you really grew up in the business.
Absolutely. I was born in Serbia but since I was little, I was always traveling. Two months is the longest I’ve been in one place in the last two years. Life moves very fast, and I’m in new places all the time. I love it, though.
What are some plans for The Gazillion Bubble Show in the future?
You can expect to see more documentary and movie style videos. We’ll be incorporating more technology like 3D into the show. And of course, more bubbles, because that’s what The Gazillion Bubble Show is all about.
After every show, the audience comes out happy and exhilarated. You get to experience every trick that I do in the moment, but I believe that the memories made during The Gazillion Bubble Show last for a long time.
