The McDonald’s Shamrock Shake Is Back For All You Lucky Leprechauns

Burgers, fries, and shakes are such a classic combo. And now, McDonald’s is shaking things up with its Shamrock Shake — just in time for St. Patrick’s Day. The patron saint of Ireland would be pretty proud.

The Shamrock Shake is made from vanilla soft serve ice cream and is blended with Shamrock Shake syrup, according to the McDonald’s website. It’s then topped off with whipped cream for a full bodied shake experience. It’s a gorgeous green color that will make you think about the rolling hills of Ireland–or just how delicious it is.

Now, what does a Shamrock Shake taste like? Well, much like its name (and the color) would connote, it’s minty. But it’s not so minty that you feel like you’re sipping toothpaste through a straw. It has enough mint to tantalize your taste buds, but not too much that you’re going to feel like you’ve eaten mouthwash. The small size comes in at 460 calories, while the medium and large have 560 and 790 calories, respectively.

And if the idea of having a creamy minty Shamrock Shake wasn’t enough, McDonald’s took it one step further and introduced a second new item to its unofficial St. Patty’s menu: the OREO Shamrock McFlurry. It’s blended with soft serve ice cream, Shamrock Syrup, and Oreo cookie pieces. It’s almost like a cookies and cream ice cream….but with a minty twist. And unlike the traditional Shamrock Shake, the OREO Shamrock McFlurry comes in a regular size (560 calories), or a snack size (370 calories). This could be a good option if you’re unsure if your kids will like the mint flavor.

Since it’s a limited edition item, you should consider ordering the Shamrock Shake the next time you’re at the McD’s drive-thru (which, like, is probably today). You’ll thank your lucky stars that you did.
