If you loved The Golden Girls growing up (or heck, even now watching reruns), then you know that the theme song was almost as popular as the show itself. The opening image of a Miami sunrise set the stage for the iconic song, “Thank You For Being A Friend.” And now, a new book has come out that will make you feel right like you’re eating cheesecake with Rose, Dorothy, Blanche, and Sophia.
Illustrated by Julie Houts, “Thank You For Being A Friend” is truly a love letter to The Golden Girls. The cover features the friends sipping cocktails on the lanai and laughing. Each page features one line from the hit song, which was written by Andrew Gold, along with a scene from the TV show. Naturally, one page features the gal pals sitting around the kitchen table eating cheesecake, or the time that the girls looked through The Men of Blanche’s Boudoir calendar. There’s even the time that the ladies found themselves in jail — and Sophia had to bail them out.
The illustrations are spot-on, depicting the women as they truly were during the golden age of The Golden Girls. Even the lyrics of the song, which are hand-lettered in script, have a very loving feeling. You’ll laugh (and probably cry) as you turn each page, remembering not just special episodes, but where you were when you first saw them.
