Do you want to build a snowman? Well, you might think twice when you find out how tall Frozen’s Olaf is. Yep, everyone’s favorite funny little flurry snowman from Frozen 2 isn’t actually so little. In fact, he just might be taller than you.
First, it was Peppa Pig. The Internet went insane when it was reported that the British piggie was actually not petite, but rather 7 feet 1 inch tall. As it turns out, it wasn’t true. And now, everyone is looking at Olaf to see how tall the sweet snowman is. To answer your question, Olaf is reported to be 5 feet 4 inches tall.
Just like all too-good-to-be-true stories, the idea that Olaf’s stature was suspect came from, you guessed it, Twitter. The viral tweet from @scotthopeful who simply stated: ”olaf is 5’4”.” Wait, what? How could a simple snowman be that tall? And then, even more importantly, how tall is everyone else in Arendelle? Are Anna and Elsa over 10 feet tall? We know that Elsa has magical powers, but does that extend to making her freakishly tall, too?

A Tumblr post from 2014 shows that there’s really no way that Olaf could be that height. In fact, he’s probably more like 2 feet 6 inches tall, which makes way more sense. In 2014, Tumblr user “goldfishturtle” did the math to determine how tall Olaf is. By using measurements taken from the door at the Oaken’s Trading Post (where Anna comes in wearing a frozen dress), it was estimated that: “A conversion rate between [real life] height and ‘verse’ height for this particular scene was created. For every inch measured with a ruler, the equivalent height in verse is ~11.07 since it is assumed the doorknob is 3 feet off the floor.” “goldfishturtle” then calculated Anna’s height by measuring the gap between her head and the six foot mark, and subsequently was able to measure the rest of the characters based on those figures.
Phew, that’s a lot of math for one little snowman.
So how did this story get started then, anyway? Well, it began with a Frozen 2’s Fandom Wiki, which read: “Olaf went with Anna and Elsa to the courtyard to greet the citizens, and wait for the Yule bell to arrive. While waiting, he borrowed a ruler from a citizen, and found out he was 5 foot 4 inches tall.”” This scene was based on the short, Olaf’s Frozen Adventure. But let’s keep in mind that Olaf is a snowman, after all, and it’s very easy to measure yourself incorrectly.
So just like Peppa Pig, Olaf is a respectable height for being a snowman. And now, we can all go back to more important things, like trying to get the lyrics to “In Summer” out of our heads.
